About us

In Western countries, the overwhelming post-war industrial development caused a prosperity that was beyond imagination for that time. However, it also prevented governments from considering some long-term issues - primarily the sustainability of that process and its consequences.

Nowadays we have to deal with the environmental, industrial and architectural legacy of that process. It is a challenge, which requires us to develop an innovative urban planning system, in order to reuse abandoned industrial areas. After cleaning up contaminated properties and restoring the environmental system, our goal is to give the land back to the community and make it the center of a new and more sustainable development.

"Sustainable development meets the current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" Burtland Report (WCED, 1987)

In Italy, there are many abandoned industrial areas. If we manage to restore them, we would lead the way in breathing new life into our towns and cities.
In February 2010, we founded Restart Ltd with the specific goal to redevelop a territory that played a significant role in both Italian history and architecture.

We chose the former SGL Carbon of Ascoli as our first project, with the support of our partners Fainplast, Genera scarl, Emmetregi and Carisap Foundation. Besides having a strong local presence, they are actively involved in tackling the environmental issues.

Marco Polo describes a bridge, stone by stone.
- But which is the stone that supports the bridge?" - Kublai Khan asks.
- The bridge is not supported by one stone or another, - Marco answers, - but by the line of the arch that they form."
Kublai Khan remains silent, reflecting. Then he adds:
- Why do you speak to me of the stones? It is only the arch that matters to me.
Polo answers:
- Without stones there is no arch.
