On Wednesday, December 20, 2011, Forum associations have officially submitted a joint plan, which they had been working on for 6 months, to Restart.
The plan, which you can download in the download section, is tackling four major areas of interest: green, unemployment, community facilities and general principles. The goal of the Forum is to integrate the plan with a proposal for the Science and Technology Hub.
Introduction
Due to its dimension, history and past economic relevance, the SGL Carbon is one of the major issues the town is facing today. Located at the heart of the city, the polluted 27 hectares of the area are surely a problem for local citizens.
Today, the factory is closed and the area calls for a remediation. Therefore, a cooperation between institutional and non-institutional entities is necessary to find shared solutions for the future of the area.
Thanks to the urban renewal project sponsored by Restart, the city can accept the challenge and become a unique architectural center for the entire community.
This part of the city will be committed to environmental sustainability, use of renewable energies, advanced technology systems, energy-saving solutions. Moreover, it will be an example of integrated community. One of the major goals of the project is the development of a higher level of quality of life. Citizens and local associations, companies and institutions will play a major role in the analysis of needs and encouragement of new ideas.
The town will enjoy an area with high-quality public spaces that will be a perfect playfield for great designers. They will also promote equal opportunities and social integration, enabling as many people as possible to enjoy safely all the provided services and equipment.
However, according to the Forum, the economic recovery of the town should be at the core of this initiative. Coherently, the Science and Tech Hub will be the driving force for local growth and development .With its laboratories and university campus, the facility will attract interests from all over the country and abroad.
All these elements should come together organically in order to create a single, comprehensive project and not a multiplicity of different smaller projects, however interesting they might be. The town should not lose this chance. Therefore, in the coming months the Forum will present a document showing the essential elements of the Tech Hub development, which will be a part of the proposal.
